Was Sales VP at Broyhill HIGH POINT — Industry veteran Don Essenberg has joined case goods and occasional importer Magnussen Home Furnishings as senior vice president of sales.
Essenberg, most recently vice president of sales at full-line supplier Broyhill, takes over the responsibilities of Richard Olmeda, whom Magnussen recently promoted to the strategic position of executive vice president. Olmeda’s focus now is on merchandising and expansion into new product categories. The company said Essenberg’s hiring is part of an aggressive growth strategy at Magnussen, which aspires to entering the industry’s top-10 supplier list within three years.
“We are committed to building a team of world-class people,” said Jeff Cook, president and CEO of Magnussen Home. “It really is all about people and creating a magical place to work. We are honored that Don has joined the Magnussen Home family.”
Essenberg joined Broyhill in 1977 as a sales representative and was Salesman of the Year in his second year. Within five years, he was national sales manager.
Essenberg went to Bernhardt in 1987 as national sales and marketing manager over the case goods division and gallery programs, then joined upholstery supplier Berkline as vice president of sales in 1989.
He returned to Broyhill in 1993, where he served in several management posts before becoming vice president of sales in 2004. His Broyhill tenure also included the management of the company’s imported case goods.
“He is a consummate professional,” said Olmeda. “He loves to mentor, and he has a passion for success. There is no question he will help us reach our immediate and long-term goals.
